Every Hopportunity Box we ship carries a promise: one dollar from each box goes to a rabbit rescue somewhere in Canada. This month, thanks to all of you, we were able to send $82 to Vancouver Rabbit Rescue and Advocacy, and we wanted to tell you a little about who your support is helping.
Vancouver Rabbit Rescue and Advocacy, or VRRA, is a registered Canadian charity that rescues, shelters, and re-homes rabbits as house pets. Right now they’re facing a tough situation that a lot of rescues will recognize. As people have started travelling again, many of their foster rabbits have been coming back, and the shelter is full. That means they’ve had to say no to rabbits who need help, which is one of the hardest parts of rescue work. They’ve been clear that taking in more animals than they can properly care for would defeat the whole purpose of being a rescue, so they’re holding the line to protect the bunnies already in their care.
That’s exactly why every dollar matters. Food, vet care, and daily upkeep for a full shelter add up quickly, and donations help keep those rabbits healthy and comfortable while they wait for their forever homes.
If you’d like to do more, there are a few easy ways. VRRA is always looking for foster homes, especially people willing to keep a rabbit until it’s adopted. They also welcome volunteers to help with shelter cleaning and giving the bunnies socialization time. And if you’re thinking of adding a rabbit to your family, they have bonded pairs ready for adoption, which is a wonderful way to skip the bonding process and bring home two best friends at once.
